Dean's Office

Responsibilities

The Dean leads the Faculty, chairs the Faculty Council, implements its resolutions and is responsible to it. He is responsible for all matters of the Faculty, unless otherwise stipulated by law or in the Basic Regulations ("Grundordnung"). This includes in particular:

• Strategic development of the Faculty
• Structural planning
• Agreements on objectives between the Faculty and the University
• Allocation of staff positions and funds in consultation with the Faculty Council
• Supervisory and instructional rights with regard to the performance of teaching and examination obligations and tasks in the supervision of students
• Delegation of tasks in research and teaching to the vice-deans and deans of studies
• Chairman of the Habilitation Commission of the Faculty
• Moderation of conflicts within the faculty
• Communication between the Rectorate and the Faculty

Responsibilities

• The vice dean acts as the deputy of the dean.
• At our faculty, the dean and the vice dean also act as institute directors of the two institutes of computer science and mathematics respectively.

The areas of responsibility of the Deans of Studies lie in the area of curricular and quality management in accordance with the responsibilities laid down in the Saxon Higher Education Freedom Act, the Basic Regulations, the Evaluation Regulations, the Regulations on the Teaching Report Procedure and the UL Quality Management Manual.
They are responsible for all study matters within the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science by virtue of their offices.

This means that they are:

• members of the respective study commissions of the faculty and chair them
• responsible for evaluation
• responsible for the teaching report on behalf of the dean
• responsible for the internal accreditation on behalf of the Dean
• contact persons for students in special crisis situations.

The deans of studies take part in meetings on a regular basis or as needed to coordinate study matters within and across faculties. They are supported in their work by the staff of the Study Office.

Responsibilities

On behalf of the Dean, the Dean's Councillor and the Scientifc Coordinator conduct the day-to-day administration of the Faculty, in particular:

Claudia Wendt is responsible for:

• Personnel and budgetary matters
• Supporting the management, planning and academic organisational activities of the Faculty Board, including the preparation of conceptual planning and strategic development and structural decisions
• Administrative preparation, monitoring and support of appointment matters
• Advising the dean and faculty members on administrative matters
• Preparation of and follow-up on meetings of the Faculty Council

• Cooperation with the central university administration, the university management and other faculties

   

Ricarda Lohmann is responsible for:

• Dealing with graduation matters
• Supervising and supporting the doctoral committees
• Preparing conceptual plans and strategic development and structural decisions in faculty communication as well as in alumni and relationship management
• Conceptual planning regarding digitalisation of administration and transfer management
• Supporting/deputising for the preparation and follow-up of the meetings of the Faculty Council
• Public relations, website maintenance, organisation Dies Academicus
• Representation of the Faculty in the Sustainability Commission
• Cooperation with the central university administration, the university management and other faculties

The deans' councillor and scientific coordinator deputise for each other in their absence.
